Currently, Er Lau is the Managing Director at HDB Building Research Institute. Prior to this appointment, he was DCEO of HDB. In addition, he is President of Professional Engineers Board. Er Lau brought SCI to new heights through strong collaboration among government agencies, institution of higher learning and private sectors.

Notably, he was instrumental in housing SCI in permanent office. SCI stayed on course in sharing and dissemination of knowledge on concrete technology and materials.
