Jointly organized by:

Building and Construction Authority and Singapore Concrete Institute.

Sponsored by WAK Technologies Pte Ltd

This is a one day training course covering the principles of quality management for ready-mix concrete production.

Synopsis
High Performance Concrete offers many opportunities to cast bespoke structures, however; at the point of casting, key physical and durability properties generally remain unknown. Problems are often only discovered on completion of testing of the hardened concrete perhaps twenty days later. This one day course commences with an overview of the problem and existing quality assurance schemes for the control of ready-mixed concrete. The potential fore reducing this risk of non-conforming concrete and the key requirements and controls necessary for products certification are then covered. Finally a workshop will allow delegates to improve their knowledge and understanding through a series of tutorial and casestudies.

Speaker Profile
Jeff Dudden has had a long career specialising in the technology, construction, production and certification of construction materials. Many years were spent working in the production, quality control, technical quality and environmental management of aggregates, ready-mixed concrete, pre-cast concrete and asphalts, followed by an international assessment role within a global certification body. He is now in private practice as a consultant, providing educational, management, auditing and technical support to commercial organisations and certification bodies. He is a Corporate Member of the Institute of Concrete Technology, of which he undertakes a role of examiner,

Half-Day Seminar on SPECIFYING CONCRETE TO EN 206 AND BS 8500 by Professor Ravindra K Dhir, Professor, Division of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, University of Dundee

Seminar Synopsis:
Specifying concrete for construction is one of the most important roles of the design engineer. This can effect the performance of structures, repair/maintenance strategies that may be required, Realisation of the intended life span, and hence the cost and the quality of the built environment. Thus, specifications should be carefully developed, and the standards for concrete properly understood and correctly applied. This ½ day seminar is planned to promote good concrete practice and assist engineers in creating a greater appreciation of specifying concrete and the current standards dealing with it. The seminar will consist of four lectures (45 minutes each) as noted below.

Seminar Programme:
8.30 am : Registration
9.00am – 10.15 am : Understanding of Standards – with exercises on selecting
(i) exposure classes
(ii) limiting parameters
10.15am – 10.45 am : Coffee Break
10.45 am-12.00 pm : Process of Specifying Concrete – with exercises on requirements
